By TROY MUKUPA

The Zambia Police Service has announced a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Mr. George Kalaba, whose skeletal remains were discovered in his Luangwa-Garden Compound residence on January 14, 2025, with the apprehension of a sixth suspect.

According to a statement issued by the Zambia Police Service, Ms. Preteria Mbandama Musela, 44, of Luangwa-Garden Compound, has been taken into custody in connection with the crime. The statement reveals that Ms. Musela was the first individual informed of Mr. Kalaba’s death and had knowledge of the deceased’s demise, yet failed to report it to the authorities.

Investigations have further revealed that Ms. Musela had physically viewed the deceased’s remains on November 21, 2023, between 10:00 and 11:00 hours. Moreover, it has been discovered that Ms. Musela had been regularly praying with the victim’s wife, Ms. Sylvia Mutoba Kalaba, and their children, believing that the deceased would resurrect.

Ms. Musela has been detained on allegations of Accessory After the Fact to Murder. The Zambia Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring that all suspects involved are brought to justice.

The police are urging the public to report any information that may aid in the investigation to Emmasdale Police Station, Garden Police Post, or their nearest police station. As the investigation continues to unfold, the Zambia Police Service remains resolute in its pursuit of justice.
