Lusaka – In a world where education holds the key to unlocking endless possibilities, one visionary leader is transforming the lives of countless young people, empowering them to reach their full potential. Meet Dr. Febian Mumba, a distinguished academician, scientist, and philanthropist who is redefining the concept of giving back to the community.

As special guest of honor at the Chunga Pa Top recognition awards ceremony, held on January 1, 2025, Dr. Mumba made a landmark announcement that will significantly expand his scholarship initiative to benefit the top 10 performing pupils from select schools in the Chunga Community, including Chunga Primary, Harry Mwanga Nkumbula, Namando, Nelson Mandela, and Diana Kaimba. This prestigious event, which celebrates academic excellence and community service, provided the perfect platform for Dr. Mumba to share his vision with a wider audience.

To gain a deeper understanding of this scholarship initiative and its driving force, we caught up with Dr. Mumba in an exclusive interview. Dr. Mumba reflected on his remarkable journey, “I’m grateful to share my story, one that has taught me to view challenges as opportunities for growth, learning, and elevation. My humble beginnings and the kindness of others have instilled in me a passion for giving back. Having faced struggles in securing academic sponsorship in my early years, I was inspired to establish scholarship programs, a commitment I’ve upheld for over 8 years, supporting those who face similar challenges.”

Dr. Mumba revealed that the announcement at the Chunga Pa Top recognition awards is a scholarship initiative that builds upon his existing programs, providing comprehensive support to pupils from grade 1 to university level. “Our scholarship initiative provides essential resources, including school uniforms, books, and materials, to ensure that young people can pursue their education without financial burdens. In fact, we have already been sponsoring numerous students to pursue their studies both locally and internationally at various universities and colleges.”

He shared his vision for the long-term sustainability and expansion plans of the scholarship initiative. “We plan to sustain the program through partnerships with other organizations, fundraising initiatives, and community support. Our goal is to expand the program beyond Chunga, reaching more vulnerable pupils across the country. In the next 5-10 years, we envision the scholarship program evolving into a comprehensive education initiative, providing holistic support to beneficiaries and empowering them to become leaders and change-makers in their communities, as we firmly believe that education is the greatest equalizer in life.”

Dr. Mumba’s philanthropic efforts extend beyond education, with initiatives that support entrepreneurs and small business owners. “For me, supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs is not just a matter of economic development, but a way to foster innovation, creativity, and self-sufficiency. By providing resources and opportunities to these individuals, we aim to help them turn their passions into sustainable livelihoods, creating a ripple effect of positive change in their communities and beyond.”

Dr. Mumba urges others to join him in making a difference in their communities. “As a product of humble beginnings and kindness from others, I remain committed to giving back. My goal is not to seek praise, but to help those in need and build a better future for all. I hope my story inspires others to make a positive impact in their communities, as I firmly believe that the seed of human transformation can grow into a great community. Let us work together to build a better tomorrow for all.”
