Lusaka, Zambia – In a refreshing departure from the usual campaign rhetoric, Silwizya Ward 13 aspirant councilor Gabriel Kaoma is putting development and unity at the forefront of his bid for leadership. As the August 2026 general elections draw near, Kaoma, affectionately known as ‘Mungeli’ to locals, is intensifying his efforts to connect with the people and showcase his vision for a transformed Silwizya Ward 13.

Kaoma’s approach is centered on working together with the community, rather than resorting to personal attacks and character assassination. “My first allegiance is to the people, not my own aspirations,” he said. “I will work tirelessly to bring development to the ward, even before I am elected to represent you as area councilor.”
Kaoma’s development agenda is comprehensive, focusing on empowering local youths and women through skills training, mentorship, and financial support. His commitment to community development was recently demonstrated through his initiative to install a new water pump at Northmead Market, which had been facing severe water shortages for two weeks.

The installation was officially commissioned in the presence of Silwizya Ward Chairperson Mr. Siakakole, the Ward Executive, and Youth Chairperson Mr. Martin, who praised Kaoma for his leadership and dedication to community development. In addition to restoring water supply, Kaoma also ensured that the market’s drainage system was repaired, a move that will enhance sanitation and create a cleaner, healthier trading environment.

During the handover, Kaoma emphasized that his contribution was in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of grassroots development. “Water and sanitation are not luxuries; they are basic rights,” Kaoma said. “By ensuring that traders have these essentials, we are giving them dignity, health, and an opportunity to grow their businesses.”

The community has responded enthusiastically to Kaoma’s vision, particularly his proposal for a first-ever hospital in the area. Residents have long struggled with accessing medical attention, often incurring significant expenses and traveling long distances for treatment.
“Having a hospital constructed here will be a game-changer for our community,” said Mrs. Banda, a marketeer at Northmead Market. “We thank Mr. Kaoma for this noble initiative.”

Mr. Silavwe, a local senior resident, echoed Mrs. Banda’s sentiments, saying, “I’ve lived in this community for over 40 years, and this is the first time we’ve had someone talk to us about what quality healthcare means. Mr. Kaoma has our community at heart, and we appreciate his efforts.”
Kaoma’s community-centered approach has drawn praise from both elders and youth, emphasizing the need for unity, development, and inclusive representation. Through the Gabriel Kaoma Foundation, Kaoma has provided essential items such as books for schools and empowerment initiatives, including interest-free entrepreneurship loans and funding cooperatives and clubs for both youths and women.
As he continues to engage with the community, his message remains clear: better days are ahead for the good people of Silwizya Ward 13.
