Lusaka, Zambia – The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has made significant arrests in separate operations targeting illegal drug cultivation, trafficking, and counterfeit currency possession.

In a joint operation with the Zambia Police Service, Immigration Department, and the Department for National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) in Eastern Province, seven individuals were arrested in Muzambwe village, Mfuwe area, Mambwe district, for illegal cannabis cultivation and trafficking.

The suspects were found with 8.1 tonnes of fresh cannabis and 101 kilogrammes of dry loose cannabis.
The suspects include:
- Spain Sakala (26)
- Julius Zulu (19)
- William Phiri (63)
- Luckson Sakala (55)
- Sinoya Sakala (61)
- Moses Banda (32)
- Benson Nkhoma (33)
In another operation, DEC arrested Priscovia Kaoma (37) in Nchelenge District for trafficking 70.7 kilogrammes of dry loose cannabis.
Meanwhile, in Mumbwa District, four suspects were arrested for possession of counterfeit United States currency valued at USD 230,000.

The suspects are:
- Eddie Saidi Marugujo (55)
- Muhammad Hashimi (47)
- Siuluta Obson (53)
- Mariam Namwinga (48)
All suspects are in custody and will appear before competent courts.

DEC reiterates its commitment to combating drug-related and financial crimes, safeguarding communities, and protecting the national economy. The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
