Chunga, Lusaka – In a world where access to quality education remains a significant challenge for many, philanthropic efforts aimed at bridging this gap are essential for fostering community development. One such initiative is the comprehensive scholarship program established by Dr. Febian Mumba, a renowned philanthropist and education advocate, which has been transforming lives in Zambia for eight remarkable years.

Dr. Febian MUMBA

As special guest of honor at the Chunga Pa Top recognition awards ceremony, held on January 1, 2025, Dr. Mumba made a landmark announcement that the scholarship initiative will benefit the top 10 performing pupils from select schools in the Chunga Community, including Chunga Primary, Harry Mwanga Nkumbula, Namando, Nelson Mandela, and Diana Kaimba.

However, due to an overwhelming response from parents and guardians seeking sponsorship, Dr. Mumba generously increased the number of beneficiaries to 20 students from the community who, yesterday, Saturday, February 8th, 2025, benefited from this pioneering initiative providing 100% sponsorship covering their educational expenses, including tuition fees, uniforms, books, and other essential learning materials, until they complete their university studies, whether locally or internationally.

The initiative has been hailed by Chunga residents as a game-changer, with more students from different schools being added to the list. Beneficiaries of the program received comprehensive educational support, ensuring that students have everything they need to succeed in their academic pursuits.

According to Dr. Mumba, his passion for giving back stems from his humble beginnings and the kindness of others, which inspired him to establish scholarship programs over 8 years ago.

“My humble beginnings and the kindness of others have instilled in me a passion for giving back,” Dr. Mumba said. “Having faced struggles in securing academic sponsorship in my early years, I was inspired to establish scholarship programs, a commitment I’ve upheld for over 8 years, supporting those who face similar challenges.”

He added, “This initiative is personal to me because I have come to understand that, in life, we are blessed to be a blessing, and we are empowered to empower others. I want to use my experiences to make a positive impact on the lives of others and ensure others don’t face the same challenges as I did. I have also come to understand that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future for our community. That’s why I’m committed to providing them with the support they need to succeed.”

The program has already made a tangible impact in the community, with numerous parents and students expressing their gratitude to Dr. Mumba for his generosity.

Ireen Chanda, a single mother whose child is a beneficiary of the program, shared her heartfelt appreciation. “As a single mother, I’ve faced countless challenges in providing for my child’s education. But now, thanks to Dr. Mumba’s scholarship, I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that my child’s education is secure.”

Agnes Banda, a grandmother whose orphaned granddaughter was also a beneficiary, echoed similar sentiments. “I’m overjoyed to see my granddaughter’s future secured. Dr. Mumba’s scholarship has brought hope to our family, and we’re eternally grateful for his kindness.”

And Mr. Mwansa, a senior resident of Chunga, also hailed Dr. Mumba for the initiative. “Dr. Mumba’s scholarship program is a blessing to our community. His commitment to education is inspiring, and we’re grateful for his support.”

One of the beneficiaries, 14-year-old Janet Mwale, expressed her excitement about the opportunity. “I’m so grateful to Dr. Mumba for this scholarship. It’s a dream come true for me, and I promise to work hard and make the most of this opportunity.”
