In a world where entrepreneurship is increasingly becoming the norm, Anna Mujimanzovu’s story is a testament to the power of passion, hard work, and determination. The founder of Muji ‘S Collection, a thriving thrift clothing business, sat down with us to share her inspiring journey.

Born on November 1, 1993, Anna grew up in a family of seven. After losing her father at the tender age of 11, Anna’s mother became the sole breadwinner. This experience would later shape Anna’s entrepreneurial spirit.
A teacher by profession, Anna graduated from her teaching course and attempted to find employment in private schools for a year, but was unsuccessful. Undeterred, she began offering tuition to her niece and her friends, earning a small income.

“After months of thinking about starting a business, I looked at my interests and what I liked to do most,” Anna explains. “Shopping for second-hand clothes, or Salaula, topped the list. My family and friends would often ask me to sell them the beautiful clothes I found, and I would accept because I wanted to earn money.”
With an initial investment of just K200, saved from her tutoring endeavors, Anna began selling second-hand clothes online in 2019. Despite facing numerous challenges, including mistrust from potential customers and difficulty raising capital, Anna persevered.

“Consistency is important for growth in any business,” Anna advises. “I grew my business through sharing it on my personal Facebook and other groups, and posted stock often.”
Today, Muji ‘S Collection boasts over 9,000 followers on Facebook and has expanded to include a physical store located in Kaunda Square, Stage 1, near the police station. Anna’s success has not only transformed her own life but has also inspired others in her community.
“I’ve helped some customers start their own thrift businesses,” Anna reveals. “It’s rewarding to see others succeed and know that I’ve played a part in their journey.”

As for the future, Anna is optimistic. “The future is bright for Muji ‘S Collection,” she says. “I plan to expand, especially on the Copperbelt, and open a big Salaula boutique.”
When asked about her strategies for staying competitive in the market, Anna emphasized the importance of uniqueness, affordability, and quality. “Thrift business has now grown, and when we started, there were only a few players,” she notes. “One thing we’ve done is keep selling unique, affordable, and quality thrift dresses.”

Anna also shared valuable advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, highlighting common mistakes to avoid when starting a business. “Don’t use business money for personal expenses,” she cautions. “Always separate yourself from the business. In fact, put yourself on a salary to avoid this mistake.”
For those looking to start their own business, Anna offers the following guidance: “Do some research, don’t go in blindly. Be ready to put in the work, pray over your business idea, and lastly, be financially disciplined. With dedication and perseverance, you can turn your passion into a successful business.”
Anna’s story serves as a reminder that success is often the result of hard work, dedication, and a willingness to take risks. As she so aptly puts it, “Entrepreneurship is a journey, not a destination – it’s about embracing the unknown, learning from failure, and staying true to your vision.”
