Kitwe, Zambia – Charles Kabwita, a member of the Patriotic Front (PF) party and aspiring Mayor of Kitwe, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing fuel shortages in the city.
Kabwita attributed the shortages to the government’s poor energy policy, which he claims is failing to serve the people of Zambia.
In a statement, Kabwita expressed concern over the frequent adjustments to fuel pump prices, describing it as unprecedented in the country’s history.

“This constant fluctuation points to poor management, a lack of foresight, and misplaced priorities in the energy sector,” he said.
Kabwita noted that since President Hakainde Hichilema took office, citizens have been burdened with excessively high fuel prices, contrary to his campaign promises of affordable fuel and sustainability.

“Today, Zambians are experiencing artificial shortages largely caused by uncertainty surrounding pump prices, which are determined by the Energy Regulation Board,” he said.
Kabwita criticized the monthly changes in pump prices, saying they have created instability in the market, disrupted economic activities, and eroded public confidence.
“It is evident that this policy is unsustainable, and the Minister of Energy must take responsibility and admit failure,” Kabwita said.

He emphasized that fuel is a key driver of economic growth and national development, and therefore demands consistency, transparency, and accountability in the management of the country’s energy resources.
“As citizens, we demand consistency, transparency, and accountability in the management of our country’s energy resources,” Kabwita added.
