Matero, Lusaka – In a heartwarming display of philanthropy, renowned community leader and humanitarian, Dr. Febian Mumba, has stepped in to assist 63-year-old Abesta Mwiinga, a single mother, and her family, whose home was severely damaged by the recent heavy rains.

The devastating downpour on January 29, 2025, left the family’s security at risk, with a severely damaged side wall rendering their house uninhabitable. Despite pleas for help, the family had received no assistance, prompting Dr. Mumba to intervene.
In a remarkable act of kindness, Dr. Mumba has offered to completely rebuild the family’s home, rather than merely repairing the damaged section. To ensure their immediate safety, he has rented a 3-bedroom house for the family at a cost of K1,300 per month, covering the expense for two months.

Works on demolishing the old structure have commenced, with Dr. Mumba hiring a construction company to undertake the project. Additionally, he provided the family with K500 to purchase food, promising further support.
Andrea Mwansa, affectionately known by residents of Desai Compound as ‘Ba Chair’, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Febian Mumba for his generous support and gesture in helping the family affected by the recent floods. Mwansa, who together with other residents had reached out to civic leaders for assistance, revealed that their pleas were met with empty promises. “Our leaders kept giving excuses, saying they were in meetings or promising to come, but nothing materialized,” he said.

Mrs. Elizabeth Moyo, a concerned resident of Desai Compound, echoed Mwansa’s sentiments, expressing her disappointment and frustration with the lack of response from civic leaders. “It’s really shameful that despite our repeated pleas for help, our civic leaders were nowhere to be seen. This shows their lack of empathy and responsibility. Thank God for Dr. Mumba’s kindness and generosity,” she said.

Speaking on his decision to assist the family, Dr. Mumba said, “I saw it fit to come through and help this family because my own background is built on the support I received from those who assisted my upbringing. I firmly believe that it’s through blessing others that others will also be able to help and bless others. This is a principle that guides my life’s work, and I’m humbled to be in a position to make a positive impact on this family’s life.”

Mrs. Margaret Banda, a resident of Desai Compound, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Mumba, saying, “We are extremely thankful to Dr. Mumba for his kindness and generosity. His actions have brought hope and relief to this family, and we are grateful for his commitment to our community.”
Mr. John Mulenga, a senior resident of Desai Compound, also praised Dr. Mumba’s efforts, saying, “Dr. Mumba’s selfless act is a shining example of the kind of leadership and community spirit we need more of. We are grateful for his intervention, and we hope that his actions will inspire others to follow in his footsteps. His selfless act serves as a shining example of the transformative power of kindness and philanthropy”

Dr. Mumba’s timely intervention has brought hope and relief to the struggling family, who have since moved into the rented house, thanks to his generosity.
