Garden Compound, January 14, 2025 – The Zambia Police Service has commenced an in-depth investigation into a disturbing case of murder reported this afternoon at approximately 16:30 hours. The incident was brought to the attention of law enforcement by Mr. Emmanuel Kalaba, 55, a resident of Chelstone Extension, following a series of troubling events involving his younger brother, Mr. George Kalaba.

Initial Report and Family Concerns

Mr. Emmanuel Kalaba informed the police that his brother’s wife, Mrs. Sylvia Mutoba Kalaba, had repeatedly denied him and other family members access to Mr. George Kalaba from July 2023 to January 2025. These denials raised significant concerns, particularly when Mr. Kalaba visited the residence early this morning at 06:00 hours and found the house locked, with Mrs. Kalaba and her children inside.

Further inquiries revealed alarming details from a tenant who had not seen Mr. George Kalaba for the past two years. This information, coupled with Mrs. Kalaba’s continued refusal to allow access, prompted immediate police intervention.

Disturbing Discovery

Upon forced entry into the residence, police officers discovered the skeletal remains of Mr. George Kalaba lying on a bed. The condition of the remains suggested that Mr. Kalaba had been deceased for an extended period.

Arrests and Investigation

In connection with this case, Mrs. Sylvia Kalaba, 51, and her children—Natasha Kalaba (19), Sandra Kalaba (22), Wendi Kalaba (27), and a juvenile female (15)—have been apprehended. All are currently in police custody, aiding with the ongoing investigation.

The skeletal remains of Mr. George Kalaba have been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is scheduled for January 15, 2025, to determine the precise cause of death.

Official Statement

Rae Hamoonga, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that a docket has been opened, and a full investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

“This case is being treated with the utmost seriousness. We are committed to a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served,” said Officer Hamoonga.

Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigations

The Garden Compound community has been left in shock by this unsettling discovery. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
