The world of bodybuilding and fitness is one of discipline, dedication, and perseverance. It’s an industry where athletes push their bodies to the limit, striving for physical perfection. In Zambia, one name has risen to the top of this competitive sphere: David Chungu Chiteta Mwape, the reigning Mr. Kabwata Bodybuilding and Fitness 2024 champion.
In an exclusive interview, we sat down with David, affectionately known as “Beast” in the fitness community, who is still basking in the glory of his recent birthday celebrations. Born on December 12, 1993, in Chelston, Lusaka, David’s fascination with bodybuilding began in 2007, when he stumbled upon a picture of the legendary Ronnie Coleman. This encounter sparked a passion that would drive him to become one of Zambia’s most renowned bodybuilders.
When asked about how the name “Beast” came about, David responded, “So, ‘Beast’ isn’t a name I gave myself; rather, it was a name given to me in the gym due to the intensity of my lifting. That’s how people started calling me ‘Beast’ – because no one out-lifted me.”
David attributes his success to his unwavering determination and focus. “When young men and women look at me and my journey, I want them to believe that anything is possible if you put your mind to it,” he emphasizes. “What sets me apart is my ability to stay focused and determined, even in the face of adversity. I believe that with hard work, discipline, and consistency, anyone can achieve their goals.”
David attest that his winning strategy for the Mr. Kabwata competition was to work on his weak points and outdo his opponents in their areas of strength. His hard work and dedication paid off, as he took home the coveted title. “I knew I had done the hard part in the gym, which was going to make it a little easier on stage for me to carry the day,” he confidently states. “I felt good, but the credits go to the hard work we put in.”
When asked about his experience winning Mr. Kabwata, David described it as the best feeling he has ever had, surpassing all his previous wins. He plans to leverage this victory to promote the sport and inspire others to pursue their passions. So, what’s next for David? “We’re preparing for next year’s competition, and I’m determined to separate myself even further from my rivals,” he declares. “I’m coming for it all, and no one will stop me.”
David’s advice to aspiring bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts is to prioritize consistency, hard work, and discipline. “Always show up, even when you don’t feel like it,” he stresses. “Believe in yourself, set goals, and plan to achieve them. And most importantly, have no plan B – only plan A.”
