As Kitwe looks to the future, one thing is certain: effective leadership will be crucial in shaping the city’s destiny. Charles Kabwita, a seasoned politician and member of the Patriotic Front, is vying for the mayoral seat with a clear vision for the city’s development. With a wealth of experience in governance and community leadership, Kabwita is confident that he can bring about positive change and development to Kitwe.

Kabwita’s background in Political Science and experience as a Ward Councillor for Chimwemwe Ward have given him a deep understanding of the city’s needs and the skills to tackle its challenges. “I previously served as Ward Councillor for Chimwemwe Ward, gaining practical experience in governance and community leadership,” he said. “I also served as Chairperson for Fire Engineering under the Local Government Association of Zambia. These roles gave me hands-on experience in service delivery, policy implementation, and community development, preparing me to serve effectively as Mayor of Kitwe.”

At the heart of Kabwita’s vision for Kitwe is a commitment to practical leadership and community development. “My interest in politics comes from a desire to see communities transformed through practical leadership,” he said. “I have served in both elected and appointed roles, including as Councillor. What motivates me most is the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives, through improved infrastructure, health services, and youth empowerment.”
When asked about his recent rejoining of the Patriotic Front, Kabwita cited the party’s commitment to practical national development and people-centered movement. “I rejoined the Patriotic Front because it remains grounded in practical national development and is repositioning itself as a people-centered movement,” he said. “This alignment benefits Kitwe because it emphasizes visible, practical, and community-driven development, values I share and will champion as Mayor.”

One of Kabwita’s key priorities is infrastructure development. “Street lighting and road signage are essential for safety, security, and creating a modern city,” he emphasized. “I envision every township and road in Kitwe being well-lit and properly marked to reduce accidents, improve security, and support thriving businesses. I will achieve this by efficiently mobilizing council resources, fostering public-private partnerships, and ensuring transparency in project implementation.”
Kabwita is also aware of the pressing challenges facing Kitwe, including poor street lighting, lack of proper road signage, waste management, and underdeveloped settlements. “Kitwe’s main challenges include poor street lighting, lack of proper road signage, waste management, and underdeveloped settlements,” he said. “My strategy is to prioritize basic infrastructure first, because a safe, clean, and accessible city is the foundation for business, education, and health development.”

Balancing politics and family life is crucial for Kabwita. “Balancing politics and family life requires discipline and prioritization,” he said. “My daughters, Natasha and Nsama, remind me why leadership must build a better future for the next generation. I dedicate quality time to family while fulfilling my political commitments, because responsible leadership starts at home.”
Kabwita’s commitment to servant leadership is evident in his approach to governance. “I will maintain open channels through community meetings, radio and TV engagements, social media updates, and council feedback platforms,” he said. “This ensures every resident’s voice is heard and reflected in decision-making.”

Furthermore, Kabwita believes that no mayor can succeed alone and plans to foster partnerships with local stakeholders, including community leaders, businesses, and organizations. “No mayor can succeed alone,” he said. “I will foster partnerships with local businesses, community leaders, churches, and civil society organizations. By collaborating, we can pool resources, share expertise, and implement projects that respond directly to community needs.”
Kabwita’s long-term goal is to transform Kitwe into a modern, clean, safe, and inclusive city where opportunities are accessible to all. “My long-term goal is to transform Kitwe into a modern, clean, safe, and inclusive city where opportunities are accessible to all,” he said. “To the people of Kitwe, my message is simple: I am committed to servant leadership, seeking your support not for personal gain, but to work together to build a city we can all be proud of.”
With his experience, passion, and vision, Charles Kabwita is a strong contender for the mayoral seat. His commitment to servant leadership and community development makes him a promising candidate for the people of Kitwe. As Kitwe looks to the future, one thing is certain: effective leadership will be crucial in shaping the city’s destiny.
