LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – A newly constructed wall fence at the Mahatma Gandhi grounds in Mtendere’s B section has collapsed following a downpour, sparking concerns over the quality of work done under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Munali Constituency aspiring MP Thomas Sipalo, who assessed the damage, blamed poor workmanship for the collapse, citing inadequate foundation compaction, weak pillars, and poor drainage.

“The contractor didn’t compact the foundation, didn’t put up strong pillars or put up a strong footing in the foundation… Who knows, maybe the cement sand ratio was not even followed,” Sipalo wrote on Facebook.

He urged the contractor to rebuild the wall fence ASAP, suggesting they work together to prevent further damage and vandalism. Sipalo also highlighted other CDF-funded projects in Mtendere that have been damaged by rains, questioning the implementation and quality of such works.

“The Govt distributes CDF in good faith but the implementation of the works remains questionable… Public funds ought to be monitored closely,” Sipalo said, emphasizing the need for accountability in government projects.
