As Zambia gears up for the 2026 general elections, Obbie Musunga Chomba, a young and dynamic leader, has thrown his hat into the ring, vying for the position of Member of Parliament for Munali Constituency.
In a recent interview, Chomba, a 34-year-old Zambian youth leader and pharmaceutical consultant, shared his vision for Munali Constituency as he prepares to contest the seat in the polls.
Chomba, a Munali resident, said his aspiration for the top seat is driven by a passion for leadership, entrepreneurship, and community development. With over 12 years of experience in the public, private, NGO, faith-based, and multinational sectors, Chomba brings extensive leadership, negotiation, and policy development skills to the table.
His leadership journey began early, serving as Press Club President and sports leader in school, and later as General Secretary of the Zambia Union of Pharmacy Professionals (ZUPP).
Chomba’s professional background is impressive, having served as Country Manager for Ethypharm, a leading global pharmaceutical company, where he worked closely with the Ministry of Health and healthcare stakeholders to expand access to essential medicines.
He is also the Founder and CEO of OMC Health Solutions, OMC Pharmacies, and AFRIZE Innovations, creating over 115 job opportunities and contributing to Zambia’s health and innovation agenda.
The aspiring MP’s academic credentials include a Diploma in Pharmacy, a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, and he is an MBA finalist at the University of Lusaka. He is also a YALI Alumnus under the United States government’s Entrepreneurship and Business Development program.
Chomba, who is contesting as an independent candidate in the 2026 General Elections, has been engaging with the community, listening to their concerns and aspirations. “I believe progress begins not in offices, but in listening to the heartbeat of the people,” Chomba said. “Munali deserves a representative who works with the people, not just speaks for them.”
He has unveiled “The Munali We Want Vision,” which includes tackling pressing challenges such as security, unemployment, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Key focus areas include Women & Youth Empowerment, Education, Environmental Sustainability, and Security & Community Safety.
“The Munali We Want – Vision is a people-centred development agenda, anchored on inclusivity, youth leadership, innovation, and sustainable community transformation,” Chomba said. “It reflects the aspirations of the people of Munali and is grounded in the belief that every citizen deserves a dignified life, access to opportunities, and a clean, safe environment.”
For Women & Youth Empowerment, Chomba plans to increase awareness and access to CDF opportunities, mobilize partnerships for grants and interest-free capital, and establish youth craft and innovation centres for skills training. On Education, he aims to construct a three-storey education complex, ensure vulnerable learners access CDF Scholarships, and promote community reading programs.
Regarding Environmental Sustainability, Chomba emphasizes the importance of a sustainable environment, prioritizing drainage systems, paving of feeder roads, and promoting green spaces. On Security & Community Safety, he plans to strengthen collaboration with law enforcement agencies, install solar-powered streetlights, and introduce smart surveillance systems.
Chomba’s vision is built on guiding principles of Transparency & Accountability, Community Participation, Equity & Inclusion, Sustainability, and Partnership & Collaboration. He plans to implement “The Munali We Want Vision” through community-based planning forums, annual constituency development reports, and partnerships with ministries and private sector stakeholders.
“This is not just a document. It is a movement. A commitment to uplift the lives of every resident—youth, women, workers, entrepreneurs, parents, and children,” Chomba said. “Together, we can build a Munali that is healthy, empowered, educated, clean, safe, and prosperous.”
